The IBA Group has issued a statement defending the autonomy and independence of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Peru, following the suspension of Public Prosecutor Delia Espinoza Valenzuela by the National Council of Justice.
The suspension was imposed after Ms. Espinoza refused to comply with a resolution ordering the reinstatement of former Public Prosecutor Patricia Benavides, despite the fact that this administrative decision is currently being challenged before the courts.
