The International Associational of Judges (IAJ/UIM) has condemned the one-year sentence imposed on Tunisian judge Anas Hmedi, President of the Tunisian Judges Association.

The organization expressed full support for Mr. Hmedi, denounced serious rule-of-law violations in Tunisia, and urge authorities to end any retaliation against judges and safeguard judicial independence.

The UN Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, Professor Satterthwaite, also expressed her disappointment in a recent post.
