Václav Havel Prize – 2017 Edition – awarded to Murat Arslan!

News of the IAJ

The 2017 edition of the Václav Havel Human Rights Prize has been awarded to YARSAV’s President Murat Arslan, the Turkish Judge who has been dismissed and since 2016 is in detention for having courageously fought for judicial independence in his Country.

It was the International Association of Judges that, together with its European Regional Group (the European Associations of Judges – EAJ) on 26th April 2017 submitted Murat Arslan’s candidature to this prestigious prize.

Therefore, the IAJ President Mr Christophe Régnard, the EAJ President Mr José Manuel Igreja Matos, the IAJ Secretary-General Mr Giacomo Oberto, personally and also on behalf of the whole Presidency Committee and Secretariat-General of the IAJ, as well as of the 85 Member Associations from the five continents of the world, express their joy and satisfaction for this remarkable result!
